Now the same Benelli M4 used by the U.S. Marine Corps can be your home defense shotgun of choice. When the U.S. Marine Corps went shopping for a shotgun, they bought the M4 — the 12-gauge shotgun that functions the first time, every time. Its unique Auto Regulating Gas Operated (A.R.G.O.) system developed by Benelli engineers has dual stainless steel, self-cleaning pistons located just ahead of the chamber that operate directly against the bolt assembly.

The M4 Tactical comes standard with a Picatinny rail for optics, a fully adjustable ghost-ring rear sight and fixed-blade front sight and a black synthetic pistol-grip style stock. An optional standard stock is offered. With features and reliability that do it for the U.S. military, the Benelli M4 is an excellent choice for your own home defense plan.

I’m not a shotgun expert but this shotty is a very good gun. A little bit hefty for a tactical shotgun but it is very fun to shoot, reliable and being semi-auto made it very comfortable to shoot rapidly. I have only shot 00 bucks and 1oz rifled slugs through it and yeah impact pattern from a buckshot is pretty good. I have installed a Vortex red dot sight and after just bore sighting it at an indoor range at 25 yds, we were surprised that we were able to hit outdoors target as far as 150 yds using Federal 1oz rifled slugs! As with the other reviewer, a must upgrades, swap the buttstock to MT Urbino (original buttstock is too long) and replacing to the extended magazine tube, 5+1 is not enough fun although now with 7+1 makes me want more capacity. Also for comfort sake, I replaced the bolt handle to Freedom Fighter titanium one and swapped the smallish bolt release button to GG&G bolt release pad…made a whole lot of difference in comfort. I have the M4 for two years now and probably have gone through more than a 1000 shells, 80/20 ratio of slugs/00 bucks without any issues at all. I’m happy and the wifey enjoys shooting it too…well worth the money.

The Benelli M4 is my very first shotgun and very fun to shoot. It can be a bit picky with birdshot ammo during the first few hundred rounds, which at times can cause a malfunction during the break-in since it's a gas piston operated system. However, I have no issues shooting buckshot or slugs. It has a great spread pattern with buckshot up to 35 yards. The rear sight is adjustable for both windage and elevation. I have used the M4 shotgun in several shotgun courses with Falcon Operations Group, ITTS, and The Academy of Saint Crispian and it has performed flawlessly. I do highly recommend changing the magazine tube with an extended version and replacing the factory stock with a Mesa Tacitcal Urbino stock. If you're looking for a semi-auto shotgun then I highly recommend getting the Benelli M4.
