Installing the Raddlock AK Magazine Lock

The Raddlock AK magazine lock is designed for AK style rifles and allows the operator to drop the magazine only through the use of a tool. This meets the definition of a fixed magazine which means your AK rifle can have a pistol grip or other banned features that would normally be illegal on a removable magazine rifle.

A hand drill, 3/16" drill bit, punch, and hammer are required in order to remove the stock magazine release but the process is actually quite easy as you will see in the illustrated steps in this guide.

The Raddlock AK kit consists of the instruction sheet, the polymer AK Raddlock assembly, spring plate, spring, pin, e-clip, and key tool
The first step requires you to drill out the head of the rivet used to hold the stock magazine release in the trigger guard assembly. Use a 3/16" drill bit and be careful to drill out only the rivet head, taking care not to damage the trigger guard housing.
Once enough of the rivet head material is removed, use a punch and hammer to drive out the rivet and remove the old magazine release and spring.
The spring plate, spring, and AK Raddlock assembly should be inserted into the trigger guard in this orientation. Make sure that the spring is being inserted over the dimple in the spring plate to hold it securly in place.
Insert the three pieces into the trigger guard, with one end of the spring on the dimple of the spring plate and the other into the hole in the side of the AK Raddlock assembly.
Compress the AK Raddlock assembly onto the spring to align the hole in the AK Raddlock with the hole in the trigger guard and insert the pin. You may need to work the AK Raddlock around a bit to get the pin to go through both sides.
Here is what the assembly looks like once the pin is pressed all the way in.
Secure the pin with the e-clip on the other side. You may find it easier to push the e-clip in place if you use some pliers to squeeze it into place.
With the e-clip in place the assembly is finished.
Insert a 10 round magazine and test the function of the Raddlock by inserting the key tool and pushing the Raddlock towards the magazine. The magazine should drop out easily. If it takes an excessive amount of force to get the magazine to release, you may need to remove the Raddlock and file down a small amount of material from the top of the portion of the Raddlock that makes contact with the magazine. Be careful as removing too much material may cause the Raddlock to fail. Take your time and remove a small amount of material at a time, testing it after each filing.
