The S&W 627 V-Comp .357 is a high quality revolver featuring a nice heavy duty slab barrel. Double action trigger pull seems to be fairly smooth, and the compensator seems to tame magnum loads a bit better than without the compensator on. Using 38 special +P loads, having the compensator on doesn't seem to make any difference compared to not having the compensator on. I would prefer not to have an internal lock, but I haven't experienced any problems with the lock accidentally engaging like some people have claimed. Firing this gun gives you a nice solid feel and the 47 oz. weight makes it quite easy for rapid fire shots with little recoil. This model being an N frame, I wish S&W still made the N frame in a full length square butt instead of this shorter half length round butt. Still, this is one fine .357 magnum 8 shot revolver to have in the stable.
