The 6.8 SPC cartridge was developed as part of the Enhanced Rifle Cartridge Program to address the terminal performance deficiencies of the 5.56 NATO cartridge. The 6.8 round uses a heavier projectile for more impact energy while allowing the same amount of rounds to be carried with minimal weight.

The drawback of the 6.8 cartridge in the M4 platform has been the lack of reliable magazines. The SIX8 was designed around a magazine developed in partnership with Magpul. The SIX8 Pmag features the familiar curved and texture body while being slightly wider with strengthened walls in critical areas. The SIX8 magazine will utilize a visible red follower.

The LWRC SIX8-A5 rifle features an adjustable gas system. Two way position gas plug (Normal or Suppressed, which allow for optimum performance with or with out a suppressor. Designed with optics in mind, the M6A5 rifle is perfectly suited to accept a red dot sight or a high-powered scope. It features an flip-down front sight and patented ARM-R free-float rail system. The easily removable top platform gives quick access to the barrel and piston system and reinstalls in seconds with no tools required.
